FAQs
- What is a tool need on Sparetoolz?
- A tool need is a free public post when you need something for a project—pressure washer, ladder, saw, and more. Neighbors who have it can respond. You only share city and state publicly, never your street address.
- Do I need an account to post or respond?
- Browsing open needs is free. To post a need, see full details, or say “I have this tool,” create a free Sparetoolz account—the same login works on the website and mobile apps.
- Is my address or email shown publicly?
- No. Public cards show what you need, category, city/state, timing, and optional budget. We never publish street addresses, email, or phone on the directory.
- How is this different from searching for rentals?
- Search finds tools people already listed. Posting a need tells the community what you’re looking for when you can’t find it—so owners can offer their gear or list something new.
- Does it cost money to post?
- No. Posting a need is free. If you later rent a tool through Sparetoolz, you pay only after the owner accepts, using secure Stripe checkout—not App Store billing.
- What happens after someone says they have the tool?
- You still use the normal Sparetoolz rental path when ready: request dates, owner accepts, pay with Stripe, private handoff details, then condition photos at pickup and return.
- How do I write a need that gets responses?
- Name the tool specifically, include dates or a window, add one line of project context, and optional budget. Vague titles get fewer replies.
- Can owners browse needs to decide what to list?
- Yes. Open needs are a demand signal. If neighbors keep asking for gear you own, list it or respond when signed in.
